Mathematics is not a skill that someone is born with. It is not a talent. It is something that is built through practicing, only after that do we become skilled. Being in the advanced Math Club means you are already comfortable with general mathematics and you are now looking to elevate that knowledge alongside other learners as well.
The Advanced Math Club is there to help you become skilled. How do we do this? Through practice! Both in-class and outside class. The only prerequisite (requirement) is to have a curious mind. Be eager to learn. Remember, we learn from our mistakes. One mistake means you have learned one way that doesn’t work.
Students should not expect a boring lecture of topic-by-topic approaches to math. In this club, we focus on learning by doing. Students will be solving math questions relative to their current topics and will also be getting help from the instructor and their peers.
* Europe / Asia Meetup: Thursdays at 2pm GMT
Students will gain a core understanding of various topics in mathematics from Algebra, Calculus, Probability, etc
Emphasis will be placed on speed and accuracy since these are fundamental skills required in mathematics
Leverage various online platforms to clearly understand and visualize math concepts.
About the Club Teacher
Since Sammy Nyakabau was young, he started becoming actively involved in school helpdesks, helping other students with their homework and clarifying class activities. In high school, he started a math help desk which helped students of all streams with their math assignments and also participated in math olympiads.
In Galileo’s math club, Sammy works with students who have the opportunity to ask him questions and discuss challenges specific to their self-directed learning progress throughout the week.
Sammy is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Programming, with a minor in Mathematics.
