Course Description

Matthieu will help students strengthen their storytelling skills while using photography as communication media. . Matthieu Paley is a French photographer and regular contributor for National Geographic. He is best known for his work documenting communities in the western region of the greater Himalaya: the Karakoram, the Hindukush, and the Pamir Mountains.

Week 1:History of Photography

* Meet the facilitator Matthieu Paley. 
* Review at Evolution of Diet Series
Assignment: take as many pictures of whatever you like in your world, and show us your number 1/best shot

Week 2: Building a Story

* Review your best images, receive feedback and discuss how to build a story based on those shots for your final project.
* What is storytelling? 
* What makes a strong photograph (composition, light, emotion)?
Assignment:  review inspiring resources and critic work of Magnum Agency 
and National Geographic. Select one picture you like and one you do not like.  Tell us why?

Week 3: The Art of Editing

* Review and critique of previous images shot by students, and look at sets of images - minimum 5 different images.
* The Art of editing
* Review at Chris Anderson & Magnum Work
Assignment: Continue working on your project and do your final editing. 
Think about what is the outlet of your story (what format, Instagram, 
slideshow, magazine, your own website, etc.)
