Our Approach

The core philosophy in our approach on how we see education is to help our students become independent, self-directed and self-organized learners.

Self-Directed Education

There is more and more evidence showing that self-directed learning is more effective in developing intelligent, well-rounded, engaged, curious and happy humans who never lose the love of learning than the traditional school method. View this video from one of our teachers, Kristen, explaining why she thinks self-directed learning is the future and the best way to educate students.
Self-Directed
The freedom to choose what you want to learn
Self-Organized
The freedom to choose how you want to design your daily schedule.

The Benefits of Self-Directed Learning

Self-directed learning opens new opportunities for your children and exposes them to a broader range of interests than is possible in a typical school. Self-directed learning promotes confidence, initiative and perseverance, and this is the best way to achieve the highest satisfaction in life.

Raison d’être

At Galileo, our raison d’être is to radically change the traditional educational system and give the freedom of learning back to the students and their families.

Our Philosophy

The core philosophy in our approach on how we see education is to help our students become independent, self-directed and self-organized learners. We designed all our programs to help our students achieve independence in their thinking and to inspire them to explore the skills we consider fundamentals for the future like entrepreneurship, technology or what it means to be a global citizen.

Our Culture

We understand we are part of one and we are all connected. We also think technology is here to help us. We want to help our students become creators and not just mere consumers.

Whatever we do in our lives, we should put all of our passion into it. This is what we want to inspire in our students.
"We have to personalize education, not standardize it."
Sir Ken Robinson

Curating The Best Learning Platforms

We are constantly searching for and curating the best educational platforms for our students. These are just a few of the best platforms we recommend at this time.

Our Ettiquette

In order to successfully work towards our mission, we ask that all students, parents, teachers and facilitators respect these guidelines.

Guiding Principles

  • Students should be given the necessary support to build habits to reach their goals
  • Instruction and support should meet Galileo’s standards for academic excellence
  • Flexibility in students’ time should be maximized

Students will...

  • Update your schedule before daily check-ins
  • Communicate with your faciitator/teacher/s if you have questions or need support
  • Check Basecamp regularly
  • Follow the absentee procedure if you cannot attend
  • Notify a Galileo team member if you have any technical difficulties
  • Always put forth your best effort to work towards your goals
  • Bring an open mind to all activities
  • Respect the opinions of others and use appropriate language only
  • Be a good listener, team player and active participant during all activities
  • Keep on camera on at all times unless otherwise addressed

Parents will...

  • Ensure that the student has the necessary access to technology (computer recommended, iPad or tablet is okay, as well good internet connection to support video calls)
  • Notify Galileo of any special needs, extenuating circumstances, or technical difficulties
  • Keep in touch with Galileo teachers and faciitators
  • Check-in often on your student’s progress
  • Help create an environment free of distractions
  • Support students in providing the structure and encouragement to build routine habits for self-directed education
  • Do not disturb during the online meeting time. Any concerns can be emailed to the teacher or Kelly directly

Teachers and facilitators will...

  • Mentor and support students during daily check-ins
  • Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours (Monday-Friday)
  • Contact students on Basecamp if they are absent without notice
  • Contact parents by email if students are absent for more than 3 days without notice
  • Create a safe and comfortable environment for students to express their opinions
  • Allow students to equally communicate and participate during class time. Address 1-on-1 concerns outside of the group setting
  • Provide course expectations and activities on Basecamp (Nanodegree and Clubs)
  • Continually work to update and improve their teaching strategies
  • Positively encourage students to build habits for self-directed learning
